Maoist ambush on RNA in Durgapur/Surunga,Jhapa eastern nepal

5 April 2006 as Nepal was set for a nation wide peoples movement (that would eventually lead to a peace process and end the Nepalese monarchy) Maoists guerrillas ambushed a vehicle returning after escorting a delivery of class 10 question papers to a local school.

Maoist used underground tunnel to plant an IEDs on the road and target a truck full of RNA soldiers of the Jabarjang Battalion, then based at Charali barracks in Jhapa few kilo-meters west of their base.

The incident would be recorded and a true picture of the barbaric nature of the war would surface as maoist guerillas were filmed assaulting dead/injured RNA soldiers with bamboo sticks.

The incident would take the lives of 4 RNA soldiers (and 2 policemen?)

Location: Jhapa

RNA: a truck full of soldiers possibly +/- platoon size

Casualties: 4 dead

Maoists: 100-300

Casualties: unknown.

The maoists quickly retreated in a classic hit and run while the army sent more patrols in the region and recovered the bodies of the fallen soldiers.
